BIO
In third grade, you could join the school chorus. But Michaela, the little girl who never stopped singing, charmed her way into the group as a second grader - and hasn't stopped singing yet.
Michaela got serious about vocal studies when she was 12 and started taking private lessons, continuing with her classical training throughout college. She earned her bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance at Binghamton University in 2006. Michaela had big dreams of big stages in big cities.
But after graduation, Michaela felt disenchanted with performing classical music. She longed for something else, but didn't yet know what. So she shifted paths, went back to school to be a teacher, and earned her Master's Degree in Childhood Education at Binghamton University in 2010. Michaela taught classroom music and choir at a local public school district for about 10 years.
During this time, Michaela got to know herself musically. She explored R&B, soul, and jazz, and fell in love with vocalists like Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday, Otis Redding, and Erykah Badu. Feeling inspired and renewed, Michaela began to write her own music and brought together a group of musicians called Caviar & Grits. With Michaela as their frontwoman, the band plays her original songs in the greater Binghamton area and beyond.
When she isn't busy with the band, Michaela plays acoustic solo shows. She also teaches private singing lessons to students aged 8 and up.
